Area Residents Invited to Use Free Walking Trails at Local Retirement
Community
MILWAUKEE – Milwaukee area walkers have a new place to get
their exercise this fall. Alexian Village officials today announced
that they are opening up the indoor walking routes located throughout
the Historic Granville retirement community.
The Alexian Village campus, located just north of Northridge Mall,
covers 62 acres and has a half-mile indoor walking trail, which
area residents can use for no charge.
“We are pleased to be able to make our facility available
to the walkers in the community,” said Gary Mohn, CEO of Alexian
Village. “We have walking paths throughout our facility that
are used by many of our residents, and we want to open our doors
to anyone who would find them useful. With cold weather coming,
many people will be looking for indoor exercise alternatives, and
we are excited to be able to provide people living in Historic Granville
and throughout the northwest side with a free and safe walking environment.”
Mohn noted that the Historic Granville Corporation was recently
formed to leverage and coordinate many of the positive developments
happening in the far northwest side community. Making new and useful
resources, like the Alexian Village walking trails, available to
local residents has been one objective of the Historic Granville
Corporation and its membership, which includes Alexian Village.
“We are excited about all that’s been done recently
by many different organizations to build a sense of community in
the Historic Granville neighborhood,” said Mohn. “At
Alexian Village, we want to continue to build on that spirit of
community, and this is just another way that we can give back to
some of our neighbors. We hope this provides them with a place to
get some exercise and enjoy themselves with others who are doing
the same thing.”
Alexian Village made the announcement after some local walkers
may have been displaced as Northridge Mall begins finalizing plans
to redevelop the shopping center. Preliminary plans for the mall
describe a mixed-use facility that includes partnerships with organizations
and businesses in such areas as education, retail and business services.
“We’re excited about the new possibilities that are
on the horizon for Northridge Mall,” said Mohn. “As
it prepares to undergo a major revitalization effort, we want to
make our facility available to anyone who may be looking for a new
place to get their walking exercise during the winter months.”
In addition to indoor walking routes, Alexian Village also makes
available to visitors free coffee, a café for breakfast,
a market, a bank, and free access to exercise equipment. Free parking
is available at the facility.
Visitors are invited to walk at Alexian Village any day from 6 a.m.
– 9 a.m. Alexian Village also has a walking club that meets
every Thursday morning at 9 a.m. Anyone interested in walking at
the facility should begin at a check-in point located at Alexian
Village’s main reception desk.
Alexian Village is located at 9301 North 76th Street. For more information
